History of Vermont
Vermont Restaurant has a history of good food and music.
Originally established as Sarno's Bakery and Italian Restaurant in the early 1940's, this location was served the Los Feliz and Los Angeles area for over 60 years. First as a bakery, then as a restaurant and bakery, Sarno's was the best Italian bakery in the city for many years. The area that is now Rockwell was once housed the massive ovens that were used by the bakery and pastry shop. Sarno's was the first restaurant in Los Angeles to import a true Italian espresso machine and starting serving espresso to the Los Feliz and Hollywood crowd in 1946. Later it became known as Sarno's "caffe del' Opera, where nightly, professional singers, amateur crooners and Hollywood stars alike would gather to sing, Perform and drink fine Italian Chianti!
Renovated in 2000, Vermont Restaurant became a true "local" restaurant, establishing itself as a fine dining experience on the eastern edge of Hollywood. Located in Los Feliz Village, Vermont Kitchen and Bar today still boasts a stellar reputation as both a fine dining experience as well as a fun place to party, due to the additional of Vermont's sister restaurant, Rockwell vt.
Barre Vermont, the cabaret style music hall located inside the 1714 complex, is the home for Show at Barre, produced by Shane Scheel. With nightly performances by Broadway stars, up and comers and ensemble acts that pack the house, Show at Barre continues the tradition of "Music in the House!"
Chris Diamond and Wayne Elias, business partners and former owners of Mark's Restaurant on La Cienega, purchased Vermont in June of 2009. They have continued the tradition of great food at reasonable prices as well as completing the construction and opening of Rockwell vt, the more casual and relaxed sister restaurant/bar/lounge to Vermont.
2 great restaurants, 3 different ambiances under the same roof, a perfect combination for the trendy and often hipster crowd that Los Feliz and east Hollywood seem to bring together.
Vermont's sister restaurant, Rockwell vt, is located directly behind Vermont, with its entrance in the alley. Rockwell is the less formal and more casual side of the 1714 complex, offering a happy hour with discounted food specials, a lounge style atmosphere with a "sharing" approach to its menu. With DJ's several nights during the week and a bi-level outdoor patio bar, Rockwell is perfectly suited for either a quick bite after work or a intimate dinner and drinks until 2am on any evening.
Rockwell offers Happy Hour food specials Monday through Saturday from 5-8pm, Brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-3pm and Yappy Hour, where dogs bring their owners for special "dog" treats every Saturday from 4-6pm.
This cabaret style room offers a nightly mix of entertainment from cabaret style performances to bands, ensemble acts with a variety to please almost everyone. Dinner is also served in Barre Vermont.
